| Miriam grew up in Ohio in an eight room house, with only two of the rooms heated. They had straw mattresses and washing was done by hand. Bathrooms were out back. Water was pumped at the sink and the lights were oil or kerosene. Miriam walked two to three miles to a one-room schoolhouse. She attended Oxford University, studying to be a teacher. Her first job was at Miamitown at $90 a month. Miriam met Aaron at a dance at the skating rink. Their first house was a Sears and Roebuck house on Ludlow Hill. Miriam taught at Aurora Elementary and then in Elizabethtown.
